Justice Prevails in Dolby Cinema

Warner Bros. Pictures feature “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” to be in Dolby Vision projection and Dolby Atmos sound.

Batman v SupermanDolby Laboratories, Inc. and Warner Bros. Pictures announced that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be released for Dolby Cinema on Mar. 25, 2016. Dolby Cinema, featuring Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, is a premium cinema offering for exhibitors and moviegoers that combines “spectacular image and sound technologies with inspired design to make every visit a completely captivating cinematic event.”

The world premiere of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Mar. 20, 2016, will be presented in Dolby Vision laser projection and Dolby Atmos sound.

Warner Bros. Pictures continues to support Dolby Cinema with the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Fearing the actions of a godlike superhero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with each other, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it has ever known before.

Zack Snyder, the film’s director, said, “Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos are definite game changers for filmmakers. The blacks are truly black, and the deep contrast and brightness levels are amazing. They make these powerful and iconographic superhero characters that we’ve known all our lives truly come alive, and I’m thrilled we get to see—and especially to hear—this film in Dolby on the big screen.”

Dolby Cinema begins with the filmmaker’s vision—using the full storytelling capabilities that Dolby offers in image and sound production to transform the way movies are made. This combination of state-of-the-art image, sound, and acoustic capabilities makes every visit to the theatre a completely captivating cinematic event, Dolby says.

“With incredible realism and wonderfully clear and nuanced sound, Dolby technologies have helped filmmakers hit the visual and audio sweet spot, enhancing the movie into a captivating and complete picture,” said Doug Darrow, senior VP, Cinema Business Group, Dolby Laboratories. “Warner Bros. continues to be a leading creative force for film innovation in content and technology, and we are eager for audiences to see the powerfully immersive film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in a Dolby Cinema.”

With Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, Dolby Cinema enables richer and more detailed storytelling. The Dolby Vision projection system, which uses state-of-the-art optics and image processing, delivers high dynamic range with enhanced color technology and a contrast ratio that far exceeds that of any other image technology on the market today, the company says. The result is a viewing experience that delivers “strikingly vivid and realistic images that make viewers feel like they are in the movie’s world.” Dolby Cinema also includes the award-winning Dolby sound technology, Dolby Atmos, which moves audio around the theatre, even overhead, with amazing richness and depth.
